Vice Ganda Reacts to Joey de Leon’s Controversial ABS-CBN Remark
VICE GANDA – The comedian-host addressed the issue involving Joey de Leon’s joke about ABS-CBN with a calm and straightforward response.
The controversy began during an April 23 episode of Eat Bulaga on TV5, where a light segment featuring pageant candidate RJ Perkins turned into a discussion about body image. In the middle of the exchange, Joey made a joke that mentioned ABS-CBN. Some viewers found it insensitive, especially since the network is still facing challenges. This led to online criticism, particularly from supporters of the network.
When asked about it in an interview on April 27, Vice said he had not seen the actual clip but still shared his opinion. He explained that making jokes is part of a comedian’s job. At the same time, he pointed out that people react differently depending on how they interpret a joke. For him, this situation is normal—comedians deliver jokes, and the public responds based on their own views.

Vice also spoke about ABS-CBN’s current situation. He said that his main role has been to continue supporting and praying for the network. Since losing its franchise, ABS-CBN has gone through major changes, and he hopes its problems will be resolved soon. He stressed that the network’s role is not limited to entertainment, as it has provided services that benefit many Filipinos.

He highlighted the importance of ABS-CBN in sharing information, especially during emergencies and disasters. Without a strong platform like it, people may not receive timely updates. He also noted that the network helps not only its employees and artists but also ordinary citizens across the country. For him, maintaining this kind of service is important because Filipinos rely on reliable information and support not only from the government but also from other institutions.
