Bam Aquino Sparks Speculation as Possible VP for Sara Duterte in 2028
BAM AQUINO – The senator has sparked discussions about a potential run as Vice President alongside Sara Duterte in the 2028 elections.
Speculation emerged after Duterte announced her candidacy for president, and Aquino remarked that cases related to alleged extrajudicial killings (EJK) during former President Rodrigo Duterte’s term should be addressed in the Philippines. His statements drew attention and raised questions about his political intentions.
Political analyst Atty. Barry Gutierrez, former spokesperson for Vice President Leni Robredo, suggested that Aquino’s remarks could be an attempt to appeal to Duterte supporters. He noted that if Aquino intends to run for president, such efforts might have limited impact, as voters would likely favor Duterte for the top position.
Gutierrez added that Aquino’s actions would make more sense if he plans to run as Vice President under a Duterte-led ticket. However, he emphasized that all reports remain speculative, as no official announcement or alliance has been confirmed.
Observers also noted that Aquino’s comments regarding the EJK cases could influence public perception and voter support. Gutierrez expressed hope that Aquino might reconsider his statements to avoid misunderstandings and protect his political image.
“Kung ang intensyon niya ay liligawan o magpapalambot ng puso ng mga supporters ng mga Duterte… kung president ang kanyang hinahabol, nagdeklara na si VP Sara. Alangan namang iboto siya over VP Sara, ‘di ba?” the lawyer said. “Magmi-make sense lang ‘yan kung nag-o-audition siya para maging vice president ni Sara Duterte. Pero sa ngayon, espekulasyon ‘yan,” he added.
Meanwhile, Paolo Benigno Aquino IV served as a senator from 2013 to 2019 under the Liberal Party, focusing on education, youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, and government transparency. He authored and supported laws such as the Free Tuition Law and initiatives promoting job creation and skills development for young Filipinos.
