Aiko Melendez Stands by VP Sara Duterte
AIKO MELENDEZ – The actress and Quezon City councilor openly declared her support for Vice President Sara Duterte following Duterte’s announcement of her intention to run for president in the 2028 elections.
In a press briefing in Mandaluyong City, Duterte officially stated her plan to seek the presidency, prompting reactions from various political figures, including Melendez.
On February 19, 2026, Melendez shared her stance on Facebook, acknowledging that her political position would likely attract criticism. She boldly affirmed her alignment with Duterte, stating that she is “pro-Duterte” and does not feel ashamed of her support. Melendez emphasized that her approach has always been quiet and focused on work rather than engaging in personal attacks or criticizing political opponents. For her, leadership should be measured by actions, principles, and consistency, not by noise or anger.
Melendez outlined the reasons why she believes Sara Duterte is the right choice for the country’s next president. She highlighted Duterte’s dedication to work over empty promises, courage without excuses, discipline without seeking approval, and devotion to God. Melendez explained that true leadership, in her view, comes from clear principles, genuine concern for the public, and accountability to God. She acknowledged that no leader is perfect, but sincerity, strength, and the willingness to stand firm—even if unpopular—are essential qualities.
Melendez also clarified that her support is not based on political color or family names but on the direction in which the country should move. She reiterated her belief that Sara Duterte embodies leadership characterized by commitment, service, and faith, and confidently expressed her decision to back her in the 2028 elections.
Furthermore, Melendez revealed that she and Vice President Duterte have known each other for a long time and maintain a personal line of communication. According to Melendez, Duterte personally responds to her messages, indicating a close and respectful relationship beyond public appearances.
