Teacher Dies After Collapsing During Classroom Observation in Muntinlupa

Classroom Observation Turns Deadly for Muntinlupa Teacher

MUNTINLUPA CITY – A teacher passed away after collapsing during a classroom observation on Monday, January 5, 2026. While teaching in front of students and two observers, the teacher suddenly felt dizzy, lost consciousness, and fell, hitting their head. Despite being rushed to the hospital immediately, the teacher died a few hours later.

The Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) confirmed the incident and expressed condolences to the teacher’s family. The group emphasized that classroom observations should be supportive rather than burdensome and called on the Department of Education to review current policies to ensure they do not add unnecessary stress to teachers. They also urged authorities to prioritize the health and well-being of teachers, especially given the heavy workload in public education.

Meanwhile, the DepEd office in Muntinlupa stated that it is coordinating with the teacher’s family and conducting an investigation to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident. The office also aims to provide appropriate support to the family and address any concerns arising from the case.

To recall, in 2022, a 57-year-old teacher from Daraga, Albay, reportedly died due to overwork and stress. Nora Atule Bolo had asked her school principal for a leave of absence because she was not feeling well, but her request was denied. The principal instructed her to complete a classroom observation first, leaving her no choice but to report to work despite her condition.

On September 12, she went to the hospital for a checkup after feeling unwell but lost consciousness while still in her school uniform and later passed away. Doctors noted that she suffered from a severe headache, likely linked to the stress and pressure she endured at work.
