Bongbong Marcos Says He Didn’t Want to Enter Politics in Youth
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. shared that he had no intention of entering politics when he was younger.
In a public discussion on episode 6 of his podcast, released on the Facebook page of the Presidential Communication Office on December 11, Marcos revealed that his parents were somewhat disappointed by his lack of interest in a political career.
“You know what, I’ll tell you something,” he began, “When I was young, I really don’t want to enter politics.” He added, “Saka medyo nadidismaya na sa akin ‘yong magulang ko. You know… [nag-iisa] akong lalaki. Pero ayaw na ayaw ko.”

He explained that, as the only son, his parents had hoped he would follow in their footsteps, but he preferred a quieter life. Observing the challenges and sacrifices his parents endured motivated him to avoid a political path at first. Instead, he chose to focus on a more private life and pursued business studies to carve out his own path away from the public eye.
Marcos emphasized that life is unpredictable, and despite his initial reluctance, circumstances eventually led him to where he is today. He reflected that although he never planned to enter politics, he does not regret the journey that brought him to the presidency. He conveyed a sense of acceptance and gratitude for how life unfolded, highlighting that personal choices often intersect with circumstances beyond one’s control.

“Sabi ko, nakita ko ‘yong magulang ko ang hirap ng buhay nila. Ang daming sakripisyo. Sabi ko, ayaw ko na. ‘Yong tahimik lang na buhay. That’s why I go to business school,” he shared. “Pero hindi ganiyan ang buhay. Hindi mo ma-predict kaya dito ako napunta. Not that I regret anything of it. I do not regret one day,” he ended.
