Elderly Woman Dies Lost Her Life During Landslide in Benguet
An elderly woman lost her life after being buried in a landslide while sleeping inside her house in Kabayan, Benguet.
On early Monday morning (November 11, 2025), a 65-year-old grandmother tragically lost her life after being buried in a landslide that struck Kabayan, Benguet, during the onslaught of Typhoon Uwan.
The victim was asleep on the first floor of her home in Sitio Tinaleb, Barangay Ballay, when a massive wall of soil and debris collapsed and covered the area. According to the Kabayan local government, the landslide happened so quickly that neighbors had no time to rescue her.

The upper part of the house remained standing, but the first floor, where the elderly woman rested, was completely buried under mud and rocks.
Rescue teams faced great difficulty retrieving her body due to impassable roads caused by fallen trees and continuous landslides. Despite their efforts, the harsh weather and unstable terrain made the operation extremely challenging.
After hours of clearing the area, responders were finally able to recover the victim. Based on the hospital’s post-mortem report, she died from a traumatic brain injury caused by the impact of the landslide.

Meanwhile, around 199 individuals or 69 families were forced to evacuate from danger zones in Kabayan. Some stayed in designated evacuation centers, while others sought refuge with relatives in nearby towns.
The municipality of Kabayan remains under red alert status as authorities continue to monitor landslide-prone areas and respond to emergencies brought by Typhoon Uwan. Local officials are urging residents to stay alert and prioritize safety, especially those living near mountain slopes.
