PNoy Honored on 4th Death Anniversary
LEILA DE LIMA – The lawyer and first nominee of the Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Partylist paid tribute to former President Benigno “PNoy” Aquino III and his legacy on the fourth anniversary of his passing.
In her heartfelt message posted on X (formerly Twitter) on June 24, De Lima described PNoy’s leadership as quiet yet deeply impactful—an example of genuine public service grounded in integrity.
“Ngayong araw, ginugunita natin ang isang Pangulong hindi kailanman inuna ang sarili. Tahimik siyang naglingkod, pero malalim ang iniwang bakas sa ating demokrasya,” De Lima said. She went on to recall her time as Secretary of Justice under the Aquino administration, saying she felt empowered to do her job without fear. “Sa ilalim ng kanyang pamumuno, naranasan ko kung paanong maglingkod nang walang takot, sapagkat alam mong ipinagtatanggol ka ng prinsipyo.”

As a newly elected congresswoman, De Lima emphasized the values PNoy stood for. “Walang panggigipit, walang palakasan, walang kapalit na pabor. He allowed truth to take its course, even when it was uncomfortable, even when it meant shaking the status quo,” she added.
PNoy, the 15th President of the Philippines, served from 2010 to 2016. He was the only son of two democracy icons—Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. and President Corazon “Cory” Aquino. His administration was known for the “Daang Matuwid” (Straight Path) campaign, which focused on good governance and anti-corruption reforms.

Aquino passed away on June 24, 2021, at the age of 61 due to renal disease secondary to diabetes. His death shocked many, but his legacy continues to be remembered by those who worked closely with him and by citizens who believed in his vision. For De Lima, PNoy’s leadership was not loud or self-serving—it was honest, principled, and profoundly democratic.
