Puppy May Lose a Leg After Being Injured by Drunk Man in Pasig

Innocent Puppy Abused by Drunk Man in Pasig

ANIMAL CRUELTY – A puppy named Kikiam is now at risk of losing one of its legs after being violently attacked by a drunken man in Barangay Santolan, Pasig City. The incident, which has sparked widespread outrage online, was caught on CCTV and shared by concerned residents.

According to the puppy’s owner, Riri, the suspect—her own cousin—chased Kikiam while shouting, “Ay, nangangagat ka?!” He hit the dog with a slipper, kicked it, and slammed it forcefully onto the concrete floor. The puppy cried out in pain and ran to a corner, visibly injured.

The man later went to the barangay hall to file a blotter, claiming the puppy had bitten him. However, barangay officials stated he appeared heavily intoxicated and showed no signs of a dog bite. Barangay desk officer Ronaldo Cruz confirmed inconsistencies in the suspect’s statement, saying, “Lasing nga siya nung pumunta rito.”

Kikiam was rushed to a veterinarian, who confirmed the puppy had suffered a bone fracture. If the injury doesn’t heal through medication, the leg may need to be amputated. “Kapag ‘di daw gumaling, nakuha sa gamot, baka putulin yung isang paa niya kasi may crack sa may buto,” Riri said in an interview.

The suspect, a tricycle driver, has gone into hiding since the incident. Riri has expressed her intention to file formal charges and seek justice for Kikiam. As the puppy recovers, many netizens have expressed support online, condemning the act and calling for accountability.

As of 2025, animal cruelty remains a serious problem in the Philippines. Groups like the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) receive over 14,000 reports of abuse yearly, but only around 500 are officially recorded. Many cases remain unreported due to fear, lack of awareness, or weak law enforcement. Advocates continue to call for stronger education, better legal action, and increased public reporting to protect animals.
