Camille Villar Gains Support from VP Sara Duterte
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President of the Republic of the Philippines has formally endorsed senatorial candidate Camille Villar.
In a 15-second campaign video, Duterte expressed her trust in Villar, saying, “In times like these, we need true friends—those who care for the country and help the poor. With Camille Villar, I feel assured. A better future is coming.” Villar responded by saying, “Among friends,” followed by the two declaring in unison, “No one gets left behind,” while sharing a fist bump.
Despite this endorsement, Villar remains part of President Bongbong Marcos’ coalition, Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas. Duterte had earlier endorsed another administration ally, reelectionist Senator Imee Marcos, the President’s sister.
On April 21, Vice President Duterte defended her support for both Villar and Marcos, saying she believes they, together with PDP-Laban’s senatorial candidates, can help unite the nation.
Meanwhile, Camille Aguilar Villar is a politician and former television personality currently serving as the Representative of Las Piñas in the House of Representatives since 2019. Born on January 25, 1985, she is the daughter of former Senate President Manny Villar and Senator Cynthia Villar, and the sister of Senator Mark Villar.
She holds a degree in Business Management from Ateneo de Manila University and an MBA from IESE Business School in Spain. Before entering politics, she was involved in business as the Chief Operating Officer of Brittany Corporation and the Managing Director of Vista Land. She also co-hosted TV shows like Wil Time Bigtime and Wowowillie.
In Congress, Camille Villar has served multiple terms as Deputy Speaker. In 2020, she voted against the renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise. She is running for senator in the 2025 elections, aiming to join her brother in the Senate. She is married to Erwin Genuino, and they have two children.
