31 Police Officers Dismissed for Stealing ₱75M During Las Piñas Raid – NCRPO

NCRPO Dismisses 31 Police Officers Over Involvement in ₱75-Million Theft

THEFT? – The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has dismissed 31 police officers from the Eastern Police District’s (EPD) Special Operations Unit after a controversial operation allegedly resulted in the theft of ₱75 million worth of cash and valuables.

According to NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin, eight of the officers—including four staff sergeants, two corporals, and two patrolmen—directly participated in the questionable raid. They have been disarmed and placed under restrictive custody. Two junior officers are also under investigation, while higher-ranking officials may face charges for command responsibility.

The incident took place on Tuesday at a house in Barangay Almanza Dos, Las Piñas City. The officers were supposedly serving an arrest warrant for a Chinese national accused of violating the firearms law (Republic Act 10591). However, it was later discovered that the man they apprehended was not the actual subject of the warrant.

Investigations revealed that the officers disabled the home’s CCTV cameras before opening a vault and allegedly taking ₱75 million in cash and luxury items, including jewelry, branded bags, and foreign currencies. It was also found that the operation lacked proper authorization—only non-commissioned officers carried it out without pre-operation clearance, and no high-ranking officials were present. Worse, the raid occurred outside their designated area of responsibility.

Aberin emphasized that the operation was unauthorized and flawed from the beginning. The district director, Brig. Gen. Villamor Tuliao, was reportedly unaware of the raid, and the team failed to wear body cameras or submit required reports. Investigators also discovered that the officers may have been seeking additional money, as one left a phone number with the arrested man’s wife, allegedly to negotiate for his release.

The Chinese national was later transferred to the Las Piñas police station for alleged bribery charges, but local officials questioned the timing and legitimacy of the inquest. The officers claimed that the victim’s family offered ₱12 million for his release, a claim that remains under investigation.

Maj. Gen. Aberin has launched a full inquiry and expressed his deep disappointment: “They have a different objective. This is why I am so angry and ashamed of what they did,” he said as per Philstar.com.
