Office of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Confirms her Departure

SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President has left the Philippines for The Netherlands this morning according to her office.

The social media platforms were taken by storm by the unexpected turn of events that led to the transport of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte to The Hague in the Netherlands. It is over the charges filed against him by the International Criminal Court, also called the ICC, over his administration’s war on drugs.

Former Pres. Duterte was arrested upon his arrival from Hong Kong. According to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) which confirmed the arrest of the former Chief Executive amid the rumors, the Interpol Manila got a copy of the warrant of arrest against Duterte from the ICC early yesterday.

Duterte was under the custody of the Philippine National Police (PNP) for several hours. The PCO said in its statement that he was checked by a doctor to ensure that the former President is in a good health. Countless Filipinos monitored the updates regarding the unexpected event.

The former President was not allowed to leave. There were calls that the detention was against the law as there was allegedly no warrant of arrest against him. When night came, the authorities moved to bring him en route for The Netherlands where The Hague is located.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte was forced onto plane. She believes that the Philippine government has surrendered a Filipino citizen and it is allegedly an attack to the sovereignty of the country.

“Today, our own government has surrendered a Filipino citizen—even a former President at that—to foreign powers. This is a blatant affront to our sovereignty and an insult to every Filipino who believes in our nation’s independence,” Vice Pres. Duterte said.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte assured that she will follow former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte to The Netherlands. Recently, based on a report on GMA News, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) confirmed that Vice Pres. Duterte has left the Philippines.

According to the OVP, Vice Pres. Duterte left Manila at approximately 7:40 a.m. via Emirates flight no. EK 337, bound for Amsterdam. Based on the report, former Pres. Duterte whose plane has arrived in Dubai this morning is set for a flight to Rotterdam The Hague Airport from Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai.

Pres. Bongbong Marcos stressed that the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte went through a process. The Chief Executive spoke on the arrest after the chartered plane carrying Duterte to Dubai has left the Philippines.
