Thief Makes the Sign of the Cross After Stealing from Cebu Church
SACRED THEFT – A church in Cebu City has fallen victim to theft twice after a man entered and stole microphones. However, what surprised many was that before leaving, the man made the sign of the cross in front of the altar, as captured by CCTV footage.
The incident took place at Lorenzo Ruiz Parish in Barangay Tisa, Cebu City. According to the church’s security footage, the man entered the church, went directly to the choir area, and took two microphones. Before exiting, he paused at the altar and made the sign of the cross. Strangely, just a day before this, two other microphones had gone missing from the same church.
A choir member explained that they often leave one of the church doors open to allow people to come in and pray. However, this may have also made it easier for the thief to enter unnoticed.

Despite being robbed twice, church officials have not yet reported the incidents to the police. They remain hopeful that the stolen microphones will be returned, either by the thief himself or by someone who may have unknowingly purchased them.
Many netizens expressed disappointment over the theft, particularly because it happened in a sacred place. Some also hope that the man will come to his senses and return what he took.

Meanwhile, the Sign of the Cross is a Christian gesture made by touching the forehead, chest, and both shoulders while saying, “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.” It is a symbol of faith, blessing, and protection, often used in prayers, religious ceremonies, and before important actions.
Catholics and some other Christian denominations perform this gesture as a sign of reverence, asking for God’s guidance or protection. It is commonly done when entering or leaving a church, before and after prayers, and in moments of fear or gratitude.
