Teacher Offers ₱100 to Student Who Asked to Borrow ₱10 for Food
COMPASSIONATE TEACHER – A post shared by a public school teacher on Threads has garnered sympathy after revealing an interaction with one of her Grade 7 students. On January 26, the teacher, identified as “angaramyoren,” shared a photo of a letter from a student who asked to borrow ₱10 to buy food, which read: “Ma’am, myo ren, pede po ba ako umutang ng sampung piso, nagugutom na po kasi ako.”
The teacher, who also serves as an advisory class mentor, explained that this wasn’t the first time the student had asked for money. Previously, the student would borrow ₱10 for snacks or transportation, always repaying the amount, although the teacher never accepted the repayment. On this occasion, instead of just giving ₱10, the teacher decided to give the student ₱100, instructing him to buy a full rice meal to ensure he wouldn’t go hungry.
When the student returned, he handed back ₱90, explaining that he had bought only biscuits instead of the meal. The teacher noted that the student often missed classes due to not having money for school. She kindly offered the student biscuits and water, understanding his situation.
The teacher concluded her post with a message emphasizing that teaching goes beyond classroom hours and that educators often provide support far beyond academic lessons. Her heartfelt post struck a chord with many netizens, sparking a flood of supportive comments, including offers to sponsor the student’s school needs and messages of admiration for the teacher’s kindness.
The post quickly gained traction, receiving 14.5k reactions, 1.2k comments, and 397 shares. Several netizens expressed their desire to support the student, with some suggesting that he learn to earn money for his needs through small tasks. Others praised the teacher for her compassion and understanding, hoping that all students could have educators as caring as her.
