Apollo Quiboloy’s Request for Live Interview Denied by Pasig Court

Pasig Court Denies Apollo Quiboloy’s Request for TV Interview

APOLLO QUIBOLOY – The founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) faced a setback as a Pasig court denied his request to attend a live television interview. The interview was intended to coincide with his filing of a certificate of candidacy (COC) for the senatorial race in the upcoming elections.

In its decision, the Pasig Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 159 highlighted the potential risks associated with any statements Quiboloy might make during the interview, suggesting these could impact public perception of his ongoing legal cases. The court acknowledged Quiboloy’s right to campaign but noted that this right is not absolute and can be regulated to protect the integrity of the legal process.

The court emphasized that Quiboloy has other means to communicate his platform to the public, rendering the live interview unnecessary. Despite attempts to get a statement, Quiboloy’s camp has not responded to requests for comment.

Quiboloy had filed a motion asking for permission to participate in an ABS-CBN News Channel interview scheduled for January 14. However, the court found the motion lacking, as it was not accompanied by a formal invitation from the network, which would have allowed the court to set specific guidelines for the interview. The court concluded that Quiboloy failed to provide sufficient evidence to support his request and decided to deny it to ensure the fairness of the trial and the confidentiality of the proceedings.

Quiboloy is currently facing a non-bailable qualified human trafficking charge under Section 4(a) of Republic Act No. 9208, as amended, and additional charges under Sections 5(b) and 10(a) of Republic Act 7610, which protects children from abuse, exploitation, and discrimination. He has pleaded not guilty to these charges.
