Trillanes Accuses Duterte of Getting ‘Triggered’ Over Bank Waivers

Trillanes Claims Duterte Gets ‘Triggered’ by Bank Waivers Discussion

TRIGGERED?! – Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV accused former President Rodrigo Duterte of getting “triggered” whenever the issue of bank waivers arises, referencing the House quad committee hearing on November 13, 2024.

Trillanes claimed Duterte appeared visibly agitated when asked to sign a waiver allowing an investigation into alleged links between Duterte’s family bank accounts and drug syndicates. He commented on X, “Triggered talaga si digong kapag bank waiver ang pinag-uusapan. Namimilipit kung papano lulusot. Huli ka!”

The tension escalated when Trillanes pressed Duterte to sign the waiver immediately, causing Duterte to respond by threatening to slap him in public. The former senator accused the ex-president of using intimidation instead of addressing the allegations directly and vowed to bring the findings to the International Criminal Court (ICC). This was part of Trillanes’ ongoing efforts to challenge Duterte over the controversial drug war and the alleged involvement of Duterte’s family with drug lords.

The hearing focused on Duterte’s drug war, where Trillanes presented documents linking Duterte’s family to drug lord Sammy Uy. He claimed that over P2.4 billion was transferred to Duterte’s family accounts from 2007 to 2015, reinforcing suspicions of criminal ties. The tension between the two peaked when Duterte grabbed a microphone, threatening violence before being restrained by his legal team. He later apologized for his behavior.

Trillanes’ allegations were supported by testimonies from former police officials, including retired Colonel Royina Garma, who revealed a reward system for police officers involved in extrajudicial killings during Duterte’s drug war. This added further weight to Trillanes’ accusations and his continued pursuit of justice for the victims of the war on drugs.

As of press time, Duterte has not issued a statement in response to Trillanes’ comments.
