Rodrigo Duterte Encourages VP Sara to Exit Politics
RODRIGO DUTERTE – The former president has advised his daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte, to step away from politics and focus on a peaceful life.
During a press conference aired by Sonshine Media Network International (SMNI) on November 8, Ex-Pres. Duterte encouraged VP Sara to pursue business or another livelihood instead, noting that their family has already reached exceptional heights with him serving as president and her as vice president. He emphasized how rare it is for a family to have two high-ranking public officials, urging her to express gratitude for their achievements and to avoid further political ambitions.
“Pasalamat ka na lang sa Diyos na ang tatay mo naging Presidente, ikaw naging Vice President. Bihirang-bihira ‘yan, bihira sa isang pamilya. Hindi lahat ng pamilya sa Pilipinas ganiyan. Pasalamat na lang tayo,”a the former president said. “Now, as fast as you can, get out of politics. Maghanapbuhay ka, negosyo, basta mabuhay ka lang mapayapa. Umalis ka na diyan. Huwag ka na mag-ambisyon, tutal vice president ka na,” he added.
The advice comes amid ongoing controversy surrounding VP Sara as the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability investigates the confidential funds allocated to the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) during her tenure as education secretary. The investigation has prompted public scrutiny, though VP Sara recently denied any misuse of the funds. She labeled the House inquiry as mere “politicking,” maintaining that her office acted responsibly in its management of resources.
Meanwhile, the Duterte family is a longstanding political force in the Philippines. Their influence began with Vicente Duterte as Davao governor, continued with Rodrigo Duterte, who served as Davao mayor and later became president in 2016, known for his tough anti-crime policies. Rodrigo’s daughter, Sara, expanded the family’s reach nationally as Davao mayor, then vice president, and briefly as education secretary. His son, Sebastian, also holds the Davao mayoral seat, maintaining the family’s regional and national political impact.
