Lawyer of Quiboloy Says His Condition is Not Life-Threatening
APOLLO QUIBOLOY – The controversial preacher’s health condition, which led to his medical furlough, is not life-threatening, according to his legal counsel, Attorney Israelito Torreon.
Torreon clarified rumors surrounding Quiboloy’s health, explaining that the irregular heartbeat experienced by the Kingdom of Jesus Christ leader resulted from his active lifestyle. Quiboloy used to play basketball regularly, which contributed to his athlete’s heart, but sudden inactivity affected his physical condition. As a result, his camp requested a medical furlough to allow authorities to examine his overall health.
On November 7, Quiboloy complained of chest discomfort and was examined at the PNP General Hospital. Following this, his camp filed an urgent petition for medical furlough, which was granted by a Pasig Court. On November 8, he was transferred to the Philippine Heart Center. Torreon emphasized that while Quiboloy’s irregular heartbeat is concerning, it is not life-threatening. He also mentioned that Quiboloy developed a cough, likely due to poor ventilation in his detention cell, and struggles with cleaning his toilet due to his age.
According to ABS-CBN News, Quiboloy’s camp has requested that the Philippine National Police (PNP) allow ventilation improvements in his cell. He has sought either hospital or house arrest due to his medical condition, but his requests have been denied by the court.
The situation has drawn criticism from House Assistant Minority Leader Rep. Arlene Brosas, who called Quiboloy’s hospitalization a display of double standards in the justice system. She pointed out that while Quiboloy, facing serious charges of sexual abuse, easily receives medical furloughs, many political prisoners suffering from severe illnesses are denied proper medical care in detention. He faces charges of qualified human trafficking and sexual abuse, which he claims were fabricated by disgruntled members of his religious group.
