Cat Passes Away After Being Hit with a Wooden Plank
CEBU – The Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF) has called for justice following the violent killing of a cat named Menggay in Talisay City.
As reported in AKF’s official statement on November 6, 2024, Menggay was repeatedly struck with a 2×2 wooden plank by a neighbor. A traumatized witness to the incident was left horrified and in tears after observing this senseless act of cruelty.
The attack, which was captured on CCTV, vividly documented the violent actions perpetrated by the neighbor of the family that had adopted Menggay. AKF emphasized that both animals and children should be protected from violence, and the footage stands as undeniable evidence of Menggay’s tragic death.
AKF has confirmed that a case has been filed against the individual responsible for the killing. Furthermore, they have once again called for the stricter enforcement of laws pertaining to animal cruelty, urging for enhanced protection to prevent such acts of abuse from occurring in the future.
Meanwhile, animal cruelty refers to the intentional harm, suffering, or neglect of animals. It includes actions that cause both physical and emotional pain to animals, whether they are pets, wild animals, or farm animals. This can involve physical harm, such as hitting or hurting animals, as well as neglect, where animals are not given basic needs like food, water, shelter, or medical care. Neglected animals may suffer from hunger, dehydration, untreated injuries, or live in poor conditions.
Animal cruelty also includes abandonment, where animals are left in unsafe or unfamiliar places, and exploitation, such as using animals for entertainment or work without concern for their well-being. In some cases, animals are made to endure unnecessary pain or too much work, leading to long-lasting harm. The effects of animal cruelty can be serious, causing health problems, injuries, and emotional pain. It is an important issue, both morally and legally, as many countries have laws in place to protect animals from harm and hold those responsible accountable.
