Sen. Imee Marcos Explains Decision To Leave Admin’s Senatorial Slate
IMEE MARCOS – The Presidential Sister and Senator explained why it is better for her to withdraw from the senatorial slate endorsed by her brother, President Bongbong Marcos.
Another election is set to take place next year. The 2025 Midterm Elections will include both local and national polls for certain government positions. There will be a senatorial race and several parties have already announced their bets.
The administration has also announced its senatorial bets for next year’s election. The announcement of the admin’s senatorial slate was made by Pres. Bongbong Marcos at the Alyansa Para Sa Bagong Pilipinas Convention.
The senatorial bets of the Marcos administration come from different political parties since the grand alliance is composed of five (5) political parties in the country. These political parties are the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), National Unity Party, Lakas-CMD, Nacionalista Party, and the Nationalist People’s Coalition.
Pres. Marcos has only one (1) request from the senatorial candidates that the admin will endorse — to keep their honesty. Here is a list of the senatorial bets endorsed by the Chief Executive:
- Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos,
- Makati City Mayor Abby Binay,
- Senator Pia Cayetano,
- Senator Lito Lapid,
- Senator Francis Tolentino,
- Senator Imee Marcos,
- Senator Ramon ”Bong” Revilla Jr.,
- former Senator Manny Pacquiao,
- former Senator Panfilo Lacson
- former Senator Vicente Sotto III,
- Deputy Speaker Camille Villar, and
- former Social Welfare and Development Secretary Erwin Tulfo
At the event, only Sen. Imee Marcos was not present. Based on a recent report on Inquirer, the Presidential Sister announced that she will withdraw her inclusion in the senatorial slate that will be endorsed by Pres. Bongbong Marcos. The Senator stressed that it is for her younger brother.
“Para hindi na malagay sa alanganin ang kapatid ko, kasi kinakabahan na nga siya baka ano raw – eh, ‘yung aking ading e baka malagay pa sa alanganin at ‘yung mga kaibigan [ay] masaktan,” the Senator said.
Based on the report, Sen. Imee Marcos acknowledged hearing about what other people allegedly say that she is boating in two (2) rivers. According to the lawmaker, what she wants is to be the instrument that the rivers will meet. She considers it a peninsula.
“It’s a tremendous sacrifice to stand alone,” the Presidential Sister said.
On the issue between her brother, Pres. Bongbong Marcos, and her friend, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, Sen. Imee Marcos said that it is “secondary” to her pursuit to stand alone in next year’s election. Previously, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte said that she will “never again” team up with the Marcoses.
