Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s Camp Speaks on Reports of Alleged Senatorial Bid
DUTERTE’S CAMP – The camp of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte denied the reports that he cancelled his bid for mayor to run for senator.
There are several known personalities in the Philippine political industry who have already filed their Certificates of Candidacy (CoC) to finalize their bid in the upcoming election. Both local and national elections will be held in the May 2025 Midterm Election.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte filed his candidacy for Davao City mayor. His youngest son, Baste Duterte, will be his running-mate in the upcoming election. The incumbent Davao City Mayor will run for the vice mayoralty position in the city.
Previously, Baste Duterte was expected to run for senator. He joined Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, one of political parties that are part of the grand alliance. According to Senator Bato dela Rosa who is close to the Duterte family, Baste will run for senator if his father will run for mayor in Davao City.
On his father filing his bid for mayor and him filing his bid for vice mayor, Baste previously said that there were changes along the way but it will be the final lineup of their family in the upcoming election. His brother, Paolo Duterte, is seeking re-election as the First District Representative of Davao City.
A few hours after Duterte filed his Certificate of Candidacy (CoC) for Davao City Mayor, there were reports that the former President withdrew his bid. Allegedly, it is because the former Chief Executive will run for senator.
Amid the public confusion, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s camp broke their silence on the reports that he withdrew his candidacy. Based on a post of SunStar Davao, the camp of the former President denied the reports that he withdrew his mayoralty bid.
“Former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is not running for senator. He filed his Certificate of Candidacy for Mayor of Davao City. Thank you,” Duterte’s camp said.
