Trillanes on Robredo After Meeting with Sara Duterte: “Are you siding with her?”
SARA-LENI – Former Senator Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV reacted to the meeting between Vice President Sara Duterte and former Vice President Leni Robredo.
On Friday, September 20, 2024, Duterte visited Robredo at her home in Naga City during the Peñafrancia Festival. Atty. Barry Gutierrez, Robredo’s former spokesperson, noted that Robredo was only informed about Duterte’s visit a few minutes before she arrived. Their meeting lasted about an hour and was characterized as “personal and not political.” Robredo later confirmed the visit, mentioning that she took the opportunity to meet with Duterte while she was in Naga for the festival.
In a statement from the Office of the Vice President (OVP), it was explained that Duterte had been invited by a friend from Bicol to attend the centennial mass for the Canonical Coronation of Our Lady of Peñafrancia on September 20. This friend also helped arrange the informal meeting between Duterte and Robredo.
The OVP added that during her time in Naga, Duterte met with various local figures and attended mass with regular Bicolanos. The statement emphasized that she “neither appeared desperate nor distressed.”
Trillanes, a staunch supporter of Leni Robredo, took to the microblogging site X, formerly known as Twitter, to share his reaction regarding the meeting between the former vice president and the incumbent vice president.
“Kung ayaw nya talaga, hindi mangyayari yang meeting na yan. Tsk tsk,” he wrote. He reposted the comment saying: “Ma’am Leni, gusto nga naming ipaimpeach si VP Sara. Tapos binastos pa nyan si Sen. Risa. Bakit mo pa mineet? Are you siding with her? Now, to the diehard pinks, VP Leni should not be beyond criticism. Kahit saan mo tignan, mali ang pakikipagmeeting nya kay Sara.”
As of press time, Robredo has yet to issue any statement regarding her meeting with Duterte.
