Grade 1 Pupil Passed Away After Being Pushed by Classmate and Hitting Her Head Inside Classroom
A grade 1 pupil in Lupon, Davao Oriental lost her life after being pushed by her classmate and hit her head inside their classroom.
The six-year-old victim identified as Althea Gaviola lost her life after hitting her head on a table inside their classroom at Comara T. Manuel Central 1 Elementary School Sped Center in Lupon, Davao Oriental. She was taken to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries after several days in a coma.
According to her mother, Danica Gaviola, she was informed by the teacher that Althea had been pushed by a classmate. The teacher requested that the child be picked up from school. Upon arriving home, Althea complained of a headache and asked to rest. However, when she woke up, she started vomiting.
The next morning, the teacher came to their home, urging them to take Althea to the hospital. She was first brought to Mission Hospital in Tagum City, where doctors immediately referred her to the Regional Hospital due to her critical condition.
Unfortunately, despite efforts to save her, Althea remained comatose and passed away on September 25, 2024.
The parents of the young girl, while devastated, do not blame the teacher for the incident. They acknowledged the teacher’s responsibility and continued support throughout the ordeal, from helping with medical expenses to assisting during Althea’s funeral arrangements.
The grieving family is now reaching out for help to cover the costs of Althea’s burial, as they face financial difficulties. Althea’s father works as a maintenance staff in a mall, and his income is the sole support for the family.
