BI Official Spoke To Former Mayor Alice Guo after Turn Over in Indonesia
ALICE GUO – The Bureau of Immigration said that the former Mayor confirmed to sending surrender feelers prior to her arrest in Indonesia.
The Indonesian authorities were successful at arresting Alice Guo in a rented apartment in Jakarta, Indonesia. The former Mayor was still wearing her pajamas when the authorities came to her rented apartment.
Guo is facing allegations of involvement in the illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming operations in the her town, the municipality of Bamban in Tarlac. The authorities also questioned her identity amid inconsistencies in her documents and testimonies.
However, the investigation on Guo did not include much statements from the former Mayor as she skipped three (2) Senate hearings. It urged the upper chamber to cite her in contempt and release an arrest order against her.
Alice Guo was into hiding for several weeks. The authorities visited all her registered addresses but there was negative presence of the former Mayor. Last month, Senator Risa Hontiveros presented a document that claims that Alice Guo has left the Philippines.
The Philippine authorities alerted the foreign counterparts over the case of Guo. Prior to her arrest in Indonesia, Shiela Guo and Cassandra Li Ong were detained by the Indonesian authorities and sent back home to the country.
Previously, Attorney Stephen David, Alice Guo’s lawyer, claimed that the former Mayor wants to surrender to the authorities. He was hopeful saying that they had a condition. Then, he claimed that the former Mayor is still in the Philippines.
However, as confirmed by the different authorities, Guo has departed the Philippines. Malaysia was reportedly her first stop and then she went to Singapore and then to Indonesia. Recently, the Indonesian authorities arrested Guo in Jakarta.
Based on a report on GMA News, following the turn-over of Alice Guo to the Philippine authorities, the Bureau of Immigration has talked to the former Mayor. According to BI Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) chief Rendel Ryan Sy, the former Mayor told him that she is happy that she is now in the hands of the Philippine authorities.
“Sinabi niya na masaya raw siya na nasa kamay na natin. Kasi actually gusto na raw niya talagang sumuko sa amin,” Sy expressed.
The BI official also claimed that he asked Guo about the phone call he received saying that the former Mayor wanted to surrender to the authorities. Based on the report, she validated it.
“Nu’ng nasa Jakarta ako, dalawang linggo na, may kumontak din po sa atin na sinasabi nga na gusto niyang sumuko, ni Alice, although naputol po ‘yung pag-uusap namin,” the BI official said.
Alice Guo is now detained in the detention facility where former senator Leila de Lima was housed for 7 years. It is a simple room with a bed, a table, and a bathroom. The authorities assured that there will be no special treatment for the former Mayor.
