The seafarer, who had long dreamed of working at sea, found himself unhappy with being away from his wife and child. After completing his last contract, he made the life-changing decision not to return to sea.

Instead, he bought a motorcycle and started working as an Angkas driver. Although he initially planned to take the exam to become an officer onboard, issues with his school prevented him from doing so.

Despite the huge drop in income; from earning around P70,000 monthly as a seaman to making approximately P40,000 through Angkas. The former seafarer finds joy in waking up every day with his family by his side.

The latter appreciates the simple things in life, like enjoying meals together and traveling abroad occasionally. Though the job as an Angkas rider can be challenging, he takes comfort in having his wife’s support every step of the way.

The couple even have HMO coverage to ensure their health needs are met. After making the decision, he realized that life is short, and true happiness doesn’t come from money but from being with loved ones.
