Camp of Alice Guo Speaks on Mayor amid Pending Senate Arrest Order
ALICE GUO – The suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor’s camp revealed that she has no more plans to attend future Senate hearings.
The illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming operations that was discovered by the authorities in the Philippines hooked the national attention. It elicited different reactions from the Filipinos and President Bongbong Marcos has decided to ban POGOs in the country.
It was during the third State of the Nation Address or the SONA 2024 of Pres. Bongbong Marcos when the Chief Executive announced the ban on POGOs. There are some popular names who are linked to the illegal POGO operations in the country.
One of the popular personalities who are linked to the illegal POGO operations in the Philippines is suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo. She is accused of involvement in the illegal POGO operations in her town.
Amid the inconsistencies in her documents and testimonies, Guo is also being questioned about her identity most especially her nationality. Her fingerprints matched the fingerprints of Chinese national Guo Hua Ping which make the authorities believe that they are one person.
Guo Hua Ping entered the Philippines in 2003 based on records. The suspended Mayor and her camp deny the allegations. Attorney Stephen David, Guo’s lawyer, recently stressed that she has a valid birth certificate and passport. It is amid the Comelec panel’s suggestion of filing a misrepresentation complaint against Mayor Guo.
The Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) has also filed a quo warranto petition against Mayor Guo challenging her eligibility for the public post. The Senate panel is also thinking about filing a formal case against the suspended Mayor who once again skipped the Senate hearing last July 29.
There is a pending Senate arrest order against Mayor Alice Guo. She was cited for contempt after she skipped the July 10 Senate hearing. Her lawyer claimed that the Mayor is “traumatized” and “drained” from the treatment and allegations against her.
The senators and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) called for Mayor Guo to surrender to the authorities. However, based on the recent statement of Atty. Stephen David, Mayor Alice Guo has ruled out attending future Senate hearings.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the statement of the camp of Mayor Guo came along their reaction to the suggestion of the Comelec law department to file a mirepresentation complaint against the suspended Mayor.
The camp of Mayor Guo tagged the move as “premature”. On the part of the Comelec, chairpersn George Garcia stressed that the poll body has its own jurisdiction and power and is not taking a movie just to join the pool of entities filing charges against the suspended Mayor.
