BFF Scams Single Mom out of P40,000 for Dubai Job Promise
SCAMMER BFF – Rebecca (not her real name), a 32-year-old single mother from Iloilo, faced a devastating betrayal when her lifelong friend tricked her into sending P40,000 with false promises of securing a job in Dubai. They had known each other since childhood and attended college together, leading Rebecca to trust her friend completely. However, her trust was shattered when her friend vanished after receiving the money, leaving Rebecca stranded and financially drained in Bangkok.
Despite her degree in hotel and restaurant management and a stable job as a tutor in Singapore, Rebecca was enticed by the prospect of better opportunities in Dubai, communicated through Facebook messages. Her friend assured her of a legitimate process through an agency, convincing Rebecca to send the funds for visa and processing fees. But upon arriving in Bangkok to await her documents, Rebecca found herself alone and unsupported, with no papers arriving and her savings rapidly depleting.
“I was convinced by her to leave Singapore and go to Dubai. She offered work. Masyado akong nagtiwala sa kaniya. Pinadala ko ‘yung pera sa kanya to process everything kasi agency daw,” Rebecca said.
After a month of uncertainty in Thailand, Rebecca managed, with her sister’s help, to secure a visit visa to Dubai. The journey was challenging—Rebecca faced immense difficulties and uncertainty, with no contacts or familiarity in Dubai. Despite these obstacles, she persisted and found work as a waitress in a restaurant before her visa expired. This job provided some stability and allowed her to start rebuilding her life in a foreign country.
Reflecting on her ordeal as per GMA News, Rebecca expressed deep emotional pain over her friend’s betrayal but remains determined to overcome adversity for the sake of her two young children back home in the Philippines. As the sole provider for her family, Rebecca’s resilience shines through her efforts to regain financial stability and create a secure future despite the setbacks she faced.
