Farewell Speech of Miss Universe Philippines Toledo 2024 Kim Placibe Canceled
KIM PLACIBE – Miss Toledo 2023 and contestant for Miss Universe Philippines 2024 expressed her disappointment after organizers reportedly canceled her farewell speech at the last minute of the Miss Toledo 2024 event.
In a Facebook post, Kim labeled the incident as “insulting” and alleged that the organizers attempted to dictate what she could say during the event, even going so far as to call her “ungrateful.” She believed that the organizers’ decision was influenced by local politics in her area.
In response, Binibining Toledo acknowledged that Placibe was only informed about the possibility of giving a speech a few hours before the show. Due to time constraints, the decision was made not to include the farewell speech in the program. The organization emphasized the importance of technical rehearsals for all stage proceedings, indicating that Placibe, with her pageant experience, should understand why her speech was omitted.
Furthermore, the organizers clarified that local officials were responsible for leading the coronation of winners instead of the reigning queens, contrary to the traditional practice in international and local pageants. They defended this decision as an annual practice and emphasized that the coronation moment should belong to the new queens and the newly crowned Binibining Toledo, without interference from previous queens, including Miss Placibe.
Meanwhile, a farewell speech delivered by a beauty queen marks the conclusion of her reign, typically at the end of her tenure as a titleholder.
