Jake Zyrus Reacts to Comparison with Ice Seguerra
JAKE ZYRUS – The singer expressed his disappointment when a netizen questioned why he didn’t follow Ice Seguerra’s path, who maintained his natural voice despite his transition. In an Instagram post, the netizen lamented Jake’s decision to give up his old voice as Charice Pempengco.
Jake responded with a lengthy message, criticizing the netizen for referring to him as Charice. He explained that Ice’s voice remained unchanged because he didn’t undergo hormone therapy, which is a significant part of being a trans man. Jake refused to elaborate further, suggesting the netizen educate themselves, and pinned the comment to highlight the netizen’s desire for attention.
He further addressed the issue by pointing out the hypocrisy of supporting one trans person while bashing another over something as trivial as vocal range. He emphasized that being transgender is more than just singing high or low notes and condemned the use of his deadname while properly addressing Ice.
Some netizens believed Jake’s career suffered after losing the voice that made him famous, while others argued he could still sing like his former self, providing videos as evidence that he could still hit high notes.
