PBBM Appoints Imelda Papin as Acting Member of PCSO Board
IMELDA PAPIN – The Sentimental Songstress has been appointed by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as an acting member of the Board of Directors of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).
Imelda Papin, a renowned singer and politician, earned the moniker “Sentimental Songstress” for her musical prowess, which flourished with hits like “Bakit (Kung Liligaya Ka sa Piling ng Iba)” and “Isang Linggong Pag-ibig.” Her educational journey took her through Bitaogan Elementary School, St. Brigette High School, the University of the East, and the University of Hawaii, where she graduated with a BS in Commerce majoring in management.
Papin’s music career skyrocketed with the release of her second album, Kutob (1978), featuring the chart-topping hit “Bakit.” Relocating to Las Vegas, she rejuvenated her career, becoming a celebrated performer and the first Filipino artist to host a telethon on Channel 18 in Los Angeles.
In addition to her musical endeavors, Papin delved into politics, serving as Vice Governor of Camarines Sur from June 30, 1998, to June 30, 2004, and again from June 30, 2019, to June 30, 2022. Despite electoral setbacks, she displayed resilience throughout her political journey.
Papin’s personal life includes marriages to Prince Carlo Go and Jose Antonio Carrion. She is the proud mother of Maria France Imelda Papin Carrion, who pursued a career in mass communication.
Beyond her musical and political pursuits, Papin remains a beloved figure in Filipino entertainment, with her legacy evident in numerous albums and hit singles. Her contributions to both the music industry and public service have made a lasting impact on Philippine society.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. appointed the Sentimental Songstress as an acting member of the Board of Directors of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO). Marcos officiated Papin’s induction into office on Tuesday, June 4.
