Is Carla Abellana in Favor of Divorce Bill in PH?

Living a celebrity life, it is no secret to the public that Carla is one of those who came from a failed relationship. The breakup of Carla and Tom in 2022 left countless hearts broken. It was unexpected considering that the couple was together for years before they decided to officially tie the knot.
It was in October 2021 when Carla Abellana and Tom Rodriguez’s wedding was held. They had an intimate church wedding at San Juan Nepomuceno Parish Church in Batangas. It was a star-studded wedding ceremony for the couple who were together for at least 5 years when they got married.
However, after more than two (2) months, breakup rumors involving Carla and Tom crossed the surface. After several weeks of speculations and rumors, in June 2022, the Kapuso actress confirmed her separation with the actor.
Tom Rodriguez flew to the United States. He was on leave from his showbiz career for two (2) years. It was only this February when the Kapuso actor returned to his showbiz career in the Philippines. He admitted that he had a hard time moving on from what happened.
Tom, a Filipino-American citizen, has filed for Divorce in the United States. However, considering that there is still no law on divorce in the Philippines, it will be a different case here. Based on a report on Pep, Carla explained that a local court needs to recognize a divorce decree. It is like a petition as to the actress.
Is Carla Abellana in favor of the proposed legalization of divorce in the Philippines? Based on the article, the Kapuso actress has a mixed stand about divorce. She stressed that she cannot say if she is pro-divorce or against it.
Carla stressed that she is a Roman Catholic and she recognizes the separation of the Church and the State. On the other side, she also acknowledged that a lot of people are calling for the passage of the Divorce Bill in the country. She stressed that the public officials should listen to the people on what is really needed.
“Sana lang yon, mapakinggan na lalo na yung mga nangangailangan,” the actress said.
Currently, there is an ongoing divorce bill in the Philippines — the House Bill 9349 (An Act Reinstituting Absolute Divorce as an Alternative Mode for the Dissolution of Marriage). 131 lawmakers voted in favor of the bill which was passed in its final reading. 109 lawmakers including Bacoor Representative Lani Mercado voted “No” to the Divorce Bill.
