Ogie Diaz Addresses Cyber Libel Case Filed by Bea Alonzo

OGIE DIAZ – The talent manager and vlogger has responded to the cyber libel case filed by Bea Alonzo.

On his Facebook Stories, the talent manager and vlogger first apologized for not replying to journalists who requested statements and updates, saying, “Makakarating din naman sa amin yan para sagutin sa takdang panahon.” Diaz also commented, “Pero eto ha? Ayoko nang magpakaplastik. Tulad ng lagi naming hinihirit sa ‘Ogie Diaz Showbiz Update,’ sila pa rin ang gusto naming magkatuluyan sa ending.”

According to Bea’s complaint affidavit, she was portrayed negatively based on false and harmful claims by someone claiming to be close to her, which were then broadcast and discussed on the shows of Diaz and Cristy Fermin without any verification.

The complaint includes accusations of repeated derogatory remarks about the actress in their columns and shows, and an allegation about her failing to pay the proper taxes. The case also involves Fermin and other co-hosts of the showbiz vlogs. Bea’s attorney, Atty. Joey Garcia, mentioned that “she was greatly devastated, she was affected by all these defamatory statements thrown against her.”

To recall, Bea and her former fiancé Dominic Roque were in the spotlight in February after their breakup, confirmed by Boy Abunda on his show, “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda.” The ex-couple then announced they had called off their engagement and ended their relationship. Bea and Dominic were engaged in July 2023 and had planned their wedding for this year.

Meanwhile, cyber libel is a form of defamation executed through electronic means, primarily the internet. It involves publishing false, malicious statements about someone online, with the intent to damage their reputation. This digital defamation can occur on various platforms such as social media, blogs, and websites. Laws vary by country, but generally, victims can seek legal recourse against the perpetrator to restore their reputation and potentially receive compensation for damages.
