To survive flooding in Dubai, a cat was found clinging to a car door
DUBAI – Amidst heavy rain, a cat was found clinging to a car door, and rescuers managed to retrieve it from the flooded streets. This unusual event occurred as Dubai experienced an unusually large amount of rainfall, equivalent to two years’ worth, causing sudden floods that paralyzed the city not accustomed to such weather.
In the video accompanying the story, a wet black-and-white cat can be seen holding onto the handle of a car door in the flooded water. Rescuers approached in a kayak and successfully rescued the cat, resulting in a relieved meow as it was brought to safety. The Dubai Media Office emphasized the importance of every life in Dubai, highlighting the significance of the rescue.
However, the cat was not the only animal affected by the flooding. Members of the Abu Dhabi Animal Rescue and Foster Facebook Group shared stories and images of other stranded cats in need of help and new homes.
Dubai received 6.26 inches of rainfall, a significant increase from its average annual rainfall of 3.14 inches. As a result, the UAE’s National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority urged residents to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.
Moreover, the same storm system caused flooding in neighboring nations like Oman and Bahrain. Sadly, flash floods in Oman resulted in the loss of at least 18 lives, including 10 children who were swept away in a school bus.
Meanwhile, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported on Thursday that three Filipino workers abroad lost their lives in the flooding in the United Arab Emirates. In a statement posted on X by DMW officer-in-charge Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac, it was revealed that two OFWs passed away due to suffocation inside their vehicle amid the floodwaters, while another individual died in a vehicular accident.
