De Castro served as the 12th Vice President of the Philippines from 2004 to 2010 under President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. He embarked on his political journey by winning a Senate seat in 2001 with the highest number of votes among senators elected that year.

During his tenure as Vice President, De Castro also continued his involvement in media, hosting various programs alongside his political duties. He returned to ABS-CBN after his term as Vice President, resuming his roles as a news anchor and public affairs host.
