Miss Botswana reacts to Megan Young’s gesture of fixing her hair during Miss World 2024
LESEGO CHOMBO – The representative of Botswana in Miss World 2024 has broken her silence following the hair-fixing incident with Filipina beauty queen-actress Megan Young.
Megan, the winner of Miss World 2013, faced criticism for her involvement in adjusting Miss Botswana’s hair during the competition. A content creator from Botswana accused Megan of racism, suggesting that her actions undermined Miss Botswana’s confidence and hinted that her hair might not be natural.
However, these accusations lacked merit, as Miss Botswana’s hair was indeed natural, and Megan’s intentions were innocent. Despite facing significant backlash, Megan’s supporters remained firm in defending her against the unfounded claims made by the content creator.
In response to the criticism, Megan Young took to social media to issue an apology after facing backlash from certain online users, particularly African pageant fans. She explained that her intention was solely to assist but admitted to overlooking the cultural implications of her actions.
She acknowledged that her actions could have caused distress and extended her apologies to Lesego Chombo, as well as to those who witnessed the incident, for any discomfort or confusion it may have caused.
Megan emphasized that her actions were unintentionally thoughtless and disrespectful, and she accepted full responsibility for them. She clarified that she never intended to intrude on personal space or cause discomfort. In conclusion, she expressed deep regret for her actions and pledged to be more mindful and respectful in the future.
Amid the issue, Lesego Chombo took to social media to speak up. “Batho bame, I appreciate that you are all looking out for me, but it really doesn’t make me feel good when you bring other people down in my name or for my sake. Please be kinder, please (heart emoji) to Krystyna, to Megan, be kinder,” she noted.
