Edgar Allan Guzman: “Ang hirap. To be honest ang hirap.”
EDGAR ALLAN GUZMAN – The actor recently revealed that he and his fiancée, actress and TV host Shaira Diaz, have been practicing celibacy since 2013.
The couple appeared on Monday’s episode of “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” where they opened up about their 11-year relationship and their engagement that happened last December 2021.
At one point, the engaged couple talked about practicing celibacy since their 11-year relationship began.
In an interview with Boy Abunda, EA admitted that he cried over how difficult celebacy was in the beginning.
“First two years namin, umiiyak ako sa kanya, kasi ang hirap. To be honest, ang hirap. Sobrang nung time na yon, hindi ko na kaya siyempre, di ba? Sabi ko talaga sa kanya, ‘Baba, hindi ko na kaya.’ Pero nung may sinabi siya sa akin na, ‘Kung mahal mo talaga ako, hihintayin mo ako,’” he said. “Dun ako tinamaan. As in, yun ang lagi kong sinasabi sa sarili ko kapag nakakaramdam ako nang ganito.”
Shaira, for her part, explained that remaining celibate before marriage is a promise she made to her parents. The actress also said that it’s the best gift one can give to one’s partner.

As the actress was egging her fiancé about how their relationship evolved in 11 years, the actor had a visible change of emotion. She noticed it and then she asked him why he’s crying.
EA couldn’t help but turn emotional, saying he just can’t believe that he and his fiancée are on the show in front of Tito Boy at that time. He shared that it’s been a while since Tito Boy interviewed him several times but he couldn’t tell him the truth about his partner.
“But this one, I’m happy na personal mismo na sabihin sayo na ito si Shaira oh. Ito yung dating hindi ko mapagmalaki sayo. Pero ito na siya,” he said. “Pinagmamalaki ko yung fiancee ko. Thank you, Tito Boy.”
It can be recalled that the celebrity couple announced their engagement on “Unang Hirit” and revealed that they have been engaged since December 25, 2021. They celebrated their 11th anniversary as a couple last February 17, 2024.
