Meet Decon and Dylan Lee, the twins who graduated as valedictorian and salutatorian
DEVON AND DYLAN LEE – The 17-year-old twins graduated as class valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, at Herricks High School in New York.
Devon was named the valedictorian with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.218, while Dylan earned a GPA of 4.224, resulting in a mere 0.006 difference between them. The twins, not only excel in academics but also showcase their talents in sports and music.
Devon led their school’s boys’ volleyball team to back-to-back conference championships and ranked among the top 50 volleyball players in Long Island. He is also an accomplished cellist, receiving awards from the National Association for Music Education. Dylan, the salutatorian, is part of the championship volleyball team as well and has excelled in marathons, winning first place in both 10K and two 5K races.
In a recent interview, the twins emphasized the importance of balance in their academic lives. While academics were a priority, they acknowledged the significance of extracurricular activities and spending time with friends. Their parents instilled in them the value of education, encouraging them to do their best rather than focusing solely on grades.
Despite the healthy competition inevitable between siblings, the twins maintain a friendly dynamic, helping each other while retaining a level of competitiveness. They also teach Chinese yoyo at the Asian American Cultural club and share common interests like playing video games.
The Lee family is no stranger to academic excellence; the twins’ older sister, Jeylin, was the valedictorian in 2023 and is currently studying astrophysics at the California Institute of Technology. As they head to different paths for college – Devon at Cornell University and Dylan at Yale University – the twins express both excitement and nervousness about the prospect of being on their own.
