Here’s the reaction of Michael V. to the issue of Jo Koy
MICHAEL V. – The comedian also known as Bitoy has reacted to the issue involving Filipino-American comedian Jo Koy.
Jo Koy faced criticism for hosting the 81st Golden Globe Awards primarily due to the perceived quality of his monologue and jokes. Viewers and critics described his comedic delivery as “painful,” “unfunny,” and “cringeworthy.” Several critiques highlighted issues such as awkwardness, distasteful content, and the failure of many jokes to resonate with the audience.
Chelsey Sanchez of Bazaar characterized Koy’s monologue as “awkward” and “distasteful,” while Shirley Li of The Atlantic mentioned that practically every joke failed to land, attributing this to dated or obvious punchlines. Variety’s television critic Alison Herman went further, asserting that Koy was “woefully unqualified” for the role of an awards show host.
Among the prominent figures that Jo Koy mentioned in his remarks during the awards night were the Barbie movie, singer-songwriter Taylor Swift- who obviously did not like the jokes of the Filipino-American comedian, Meryl Streep, and Robert De Niro.
In his interview on Good Morning America, Jo Koy mentioned that he felt hurt by the criticism he received for his joke. He explained that the hosting position was different from his usual stand-up comedy style and that he followed what was written in the script.
Kapuso comedy genius Michael V., also known as Bitoy, has also reacted to the issue of Jo Koy. In a Facebook post, he stressed: “I think Jo Koy’s Golden Globes jokes are funny, direct and pretty much self-explanatory. The last thing Jo Koy should be doing is trying to explain it to people who purposely choose NOT to understand and appreciate them.”
His post has elicited mixed reactions from the netizens. One netizen said: “The legend has spoken. Case closed! Another netizen commented: “Very well said Lods. It takes a high IQ to understand intelligent jokes. Ilag!!!!”
