Household Helper Prepares Prosperity Bowl While Boss and Family Are Away

PROSPERITY BOWL – A well-known chef was touched by the gesture of their household helper after she set up a DIY charm while they were away.

The “prosperity bowl,” as described in the provided details, is a do-it-yourself (DIY) charm that has become a prominent feature in modern Filipino New Year celebrations. Rooted in Chinese tradition and feng shui practices, the prosperity bowl is traditionally shaped like a Chinese money bar-shaped basket.

The key elements of this symbolic charm include filling the bowl with rice grains as a representation of abundance. Adornments such as charms, including the Chinese money frog (jin chan), pineapple charm (ong lai), the Chinese zodiac animal of the year, and a wealth Buddha, are added to the rice.

For a simple DIY charm, individuals are advised to fill a bowl with rice grains and insert rolled paper money, preferably in odd numbers, into the grains. Red envelopes, known as angpaos, are also suggested to be placed on the bowl in odd numbers. Water and nine coins complete the arrangement within the bowl. Displayed on New Year’s Eve, it is recommended to be removed before January 2.

In a Facebook post, Chef Gelo Guison shared how he was touched by the gesture of their household helper after setting up a prosperity bowl while they were away.

According to him, they had a new household helper who started about three (3) months ago. On New Year, they went away, and when they returned, there was a prosperity bowl on the table which she left. Chef Gelo said he doesn’t believe in such practices but was deeply touched by the gesture.

The famous chef said the house helper could have chosen not to do it and refrain from spending, but because she was concerned for them, she made the effort. Perhaps, this is a lesson he needs to embrace more, to have more compassion for others because everyone is connected. In the end, he thanked Digna, their house helper for reminding him of the importance of compassion.
