Following Xian Gaza’s criticism of Melai Cantiveros, Dr. Richard Mata stood up in her defense
DR. RICHARD MATA – The renowned pediatrician defended Melai Cantiveros after she faced criticism for her comedic performance at the Asia Artist Awards 2023.
Melai Cantiveros brought joy with her amusing remarks during her acceptance speech upon receiving the Best Actor Award at the 2023 Asia Artist Awards held at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan. Before accepting her award, Melai Cantiveros expressed feeling like a “first honor” and “valedictorian” while attending the event.
The video clip of Melai’s speech quickly gained popularity as many netizens found her words entertaining. However, social media personality Xian Gaza was not pleased with Melai. On Friday, December 15, he took to Facebook to share his thoughts on humor and being a joker. “Ang humor at pagiging joker ay mayroong limitasyon at inilalagay sa lugar. Kapag kasi nasobrahan sa maling venue ay magmumukhang tanga tapos iisipin ng ibang lahi ang mga artistang Pinoy ay aanga-anga at walang ka-class class,” Xian commented.
Before expressing his views on humor, he had already conveyed his lack of amusement with Melai. “Ako lang ata yung hindi natawa kay Melai. Tumatanda na talaga ako,” he remarked. However, Dr. Richard Mata believed that Melai could be unfairly used as a basis to generalize other celebrities on a global scale.
“Ok lang si Melai comedyante naman. Di naman maiisip ng Korea na ganun ang lahat ng Pinoy dahil andun naman si Kath at Dan na saksakan ng pogi at maganda at pormal. At SB19,BEN & BEN,and HORIZON. So basically we Filipinos are well represented by all of them,” he said. “Lahat tayo ay may classmate na Melai. Yung kahit anong gagawin niyang seryoso sa report niya ay mas lalong nakakatawa. Sa mga Melai dyan, we accept you as you are,” he added.
