DARRYL YAP – The director admitted that he used to have a girlfriend before coming out as gay.
Darryl Yap is a film director, screenwriter, and producer born on January 7, 1987, in Olongapo, Zambales, Philippines. He is known for his work in the Philippine film industry, particularly for directing and producing films with unique and controversial themes. Yap started his directing career with the short film “Squatterina” and gained recognition with his first full film, “#Jowable,” in 2018.
Darryl Yap has often been a subject of controversy due to the nature of his film projects and his outspoken views on certain issues. He has faced criticism and backlash for projects like the television series “Sakristan” and the film “When I Grow Up, I Want to be a Pornstar.” His film “Maid in Malacañang,” released in 2022, stirred controversy for its portrayal of historical events and figures, particularly during the People Power Revolution in 1986.

In a sideline interview during the special screening of his movie, Para Kang Papa Mo, starring Jao Mapa, Eric Fructuoso, Nikko Natividad and Mark Anthony Fernandez, he admitted that he used to have a girlfriend when he was in high school.
“After ng college, saka po ako nag-out. Yun ang first boyfriend ko noon. My mother was very supportive. Nakakahiyang aminin pero when I was in high school, I used to have a girlfriend. Tapos, yung nanay ko, ayaw niya. Halata kasing bading ako, e, so sabi niya huwag na akong gumamit ng tao,” he said.
“Nung college, nag-out ako sa parents ko. Sinabi ko na ‘I am gay. I have a relationship.’ Yung first relationship ko, it lasted five years. Pangmatagalan ako e… Motolite. I have a relationship now. Wala pa ako sa showbiz, meron na akong karelasyon,” he added.
