Rico Blanco Slaps Perf de Castro With Copyright Removal Request for Rivermaya’s “214”
PERF DE CASTRO – The original lead guitarist of Rivermaya took to social media to express his frustration after receiving a takedown request from Rico Blanco for his live music video of “214.”
In a Facebook post, De Castro mentioned that he was given seven days’ notice before the video was taken down. However, he claimed to have gone through copyright clearance via Distrokid before releasing his own version of the song. As a result, Perf has decided to take down all his content related to Rivermaya from all his platforms.
The content claim was initiated by none other than Rico Blanco, who is also an original member of Rivermaya. Before the video could be removed, Blanco provided him with an opportunity to resolve the copyright issue.
In the comment section of his post, Perf De Castro mentioned that the copyright notice was “manually detected,” indicating that someone directly reported the video. This incident occurred amid the approaching reunion concert of Rivermaya, from which Perf was excluded.
Rivermaya is scheduled to hold a one-night show on February 17, 2024, at the SMDC Festival Grounds. The concert will offer various ticket categories: P2,550 for BRONZE, P6,550 for SILVER, P11,750 for GOLD, and P14,750 for VIP. It is an all-standing show, and ticket prices include SM ticketing charges, subject to change without prior notice.
Meanwhile, Perf De Castro was part of the band when they produced popular songs like “Ulan,” “214,” and “Awit ng Kabataan.” However, the band underwent changes with Perf departing in 1995, Bamboo in 1998, and Rico in 2007, leading to various alterations in its lineup.
Despite these transitions, the band has persisted with Mark and Nathan as the sole remaining original members. Rivermaya is recognized for its chart-topping songs, including “You’ll Be Safe Here,” “Elesi,” “Kisapmata,” and “Liwanag sa Dilim,” among others.
