BENEFITS FOR BARANGAY OFFICIALS IN PHILIPPINES – Listed below are the benefits that barangay officers in the country are entitled to.

Today is barangay elections in the Philippines. Millions of Filipinos are out to vote for the candidates they support this BSKE 2023. For each barangay, one (1) Punong Barangay and seven (7) members for Sangguniang Kabataan will be elected.

The barangay officials receive a monthly honorarium according to the Department of Budget and Management. The rate varies depending on certain cases like the population of constituents in a barangay but the law limits the honorarium not to go below P1,000 per month for the barangay captain or the Punong barangay and P600 per month for the SB members.

Aside from the honorarium, there are other benefits for barangay officials. Here is a list of what the officers in the barangay are entitled to:

Punong Barangay
  • Christmas bonus in the form of cash gift with the amount based on the rate approved under the law
  • Insurance Coverage under the Republic Act 6942
  • Medical Care that provides free hospitalization in government hospitals
  • Free tuition and matriculation fees in government schools including two (2) of the legitimate dependent children
  • Conferment of Civil Service eligibility based on the number of years in the service
  • Preference in appointment to any government position
Sangguniang Barangay Members
  • Christmas bonus in the form of cash gift with the amount based on the rate approved under the law
  • Insurance Coverage under the Republic Act 6942
  • Medical Care that provides free hospitalization in government hospitals

Barangay Treasurer

  • Free tuition and matriculation fees in government schools including two (2) of the legitimate dependent children
  • Conferment of Civil Service eligibility based on the number of years in the service
Barangay Secretary
  • Christmas bonus in the form of cash gift with the amount based on the rate approved under the law
  • Insurance Coverage under the Republic Act 6942
  • Medical Care that provides free hospitalization in government hospitals
  • Free tuition and matriculation fees in government schools including two (2) of the legitimate dependent children
  • Conferment of Civil Service eligibility based on the number of years in the service
Barangay Tanods not exceeding 20 per barangay
  • Insurance Coverage under the Republic Act 6942

With regards to the medical care that is part of the benefits for barangay officials in the Philippines, DBM stated that an official may be confined in a private hospital and the expenses may be charged on the barangay funds but it should not be more than P5,000.
