SIM card users in the Philippines are mandated to register as per the SIM Card Registration Act which was the first bill signed into law by President Bongbong Marcos. The push of the authorities is reportedly in the pursuit to curb the incidents of scamming in the country.

Now that the deadline of the SIM card registration has long passed, new SIMs must be registered so users can utilize the services of the telecommunication provider. One of the most popular telco providers in the country is Smart and it has prepared an online registration platform for its users.

In registering a Smart SIM card, there are personal information that you must prepare and provide. It is important to note the following infos before proceeding with the registration:

  • Mobile Number
  • OTP (One-Time Password, to be sent to your number by Smart upon registration) 
  • Full Name
  • Birth Date
  • Complete Address
  • Gender
  • Nationality

To register a new Smart SIM Card, you need to prepare at least one (1) of your government-issued valid IDs. Prepare a clear scanned copy of your ID. Here is a guide on the valid IDs accepted by the telco provider for the SIM registration process:

  • Passport
  • Philippine Identification
  • Social Security System ID
  • Government Service Insurance System E-Card
  • Driver’s License
  • National Bureau of Investigation Clearance
  • Police Clearance
  • Firearms’ License to Own and Possess ID
  • Professional Regulation Commission ID
  • Integrated Bar of the Philippines ID
  • Overseas Workers Welfare Administration ID
  • Bureau of Internal Revenue ID
  • Voter’s ID
  • Senior Citizen’s Card
  • Unified Multi-purpose Identification Card
  • Person with Disabilities Card
  • Other valid government-issued ID with Photo

To the process to register a SIM card, you also need a clear selfie photo which you will submit for the registration. Have a simple background without distracting elements and follow the steps below:

Step 1. Visit the Smart portal at http://www.smart.com.ph/simreg.   

Step 2. Enter your mobile number. You will receive your One-Time Password (OTP).

Step 3. Input your information, upload your valid ID, and upload your selfie.  

Step 4. Wait for the SMS confirming the successful registration of your SIM card.
