Ronnie Liang Gives Opinion on MTRCB-It’s Showtime Issue: ‘Parang selective justice’

Here’s the opinion of Ronnie Liang on the issue between MTRCB and It’s Showtime

RONNIE LIANG – The singer, actor, pilot, and army reservist, has shared his thoughts on the issue involving the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) and the noontime program “It’s Showtime.”

This pertains to the 12-day suspension imposed by the government agency on the noontime show, a decision currently under appeal by ABS-CBN. Ronnie believes that the MTRCB should establish clear and consistent guidelines or criteria for “acceptable content.”

“In this case, they quickly suspended Showtime because Vice Ganda was seen licking icing off his co-host and partner Ion Perez’s fingers. However, there were similar or worse situations on other shows that were not addressed with the same urgency or attention. This inconsistency raises questions about their decision-making. Parang selective justice. Sorry po, pero ganun ang impression,” he remarked.

Ronnie Liang also pointed out concerns about fairness within the board due to Chair Lala Sotto’s connections to a rival show on Showtime. Despite Chair Sotto’s claim that she refrained from influencing the suspension order, her role as the head of the MTRCB and her close family ties to the entertainment industry create doubts.

He even drew a parallel to a basketball game, suggesting that it’s similar to having a referee who is best friends with one of the players, which doesn’t feel right. Here’s his tweet:

Meanwhile, there are reports that Lala Sotto mentioned that if the It’s Showtime hosts issue an apology, the board’s decision might be reconsidered. TheVice Ganda and Ion Perez are currently facing charges filed by KSMBPI or Kapisanan ng Social Media Broadcasters ng Pilipinas, Inc. due to the alleged “indecent act” of Vice and Ion on the mentioned noontime show.
