Millions of Filipinos inside and outside the Philippines are members of the Social Security System or more popularly known as the SSS. It is a state-run social insurance entity and the membership to this institution is a mandate in most offices in the private sector.
The members of the SSS include locally employed individuals in the private sector, self-employed individuals, overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), household helpers, and voluntary members. SSS Sickness Benefit
The members of the Social Security System (SSS) may turn to the state-run social insurance agency in times of absence from work due to sickness. To qualify, for the benefit offer, the member must:
- have paid at least three (3) months of contributions within the 12-month period immediately preceding the semester of sickness or injury
- duly notified the SSS directly of the fact of sickness or injury

SSS Maternity Benefit

SSS Disability Benefit
When an unexpected incident happens leaving the SSS member with a disability, he/she may turn to the Social Security System for financial assistance. The benefit offer covers both partial and total permanent disabilities.

SSS Death Benefit
When an SSS member dies, his/her family can turn to the Social Security System for a financial assistance provided that he/she has posted at least 36 monthly contributions. The order of beneficiaries are as follows:
- dependent spouse until he/she remarries
- dependent legitimate, legitimated, and illegitimate children who are 20 years old and below, not employed, and single
