The success story of Romer Gutierrez
ROMER GUTIERREZ – A former seaman, waiter, and bartender now owns a manpower agency in the U.S.
Romer grew up in a tight-knit barangay in Sorsogon City, always achieving success. He consistently earned top honors and graduated as valedictorian from kindergarten through elementary school, and he achieved the same feat in high school.
Later, he pursued Marine Transportation at Mariners Polytechnic Colleges Foundation in Legaspi City. Upon college graduation, Romer began his professional journey by working as an apprentice in a local shipping company. Within a year, he progressed to becoming a crew member on a German vessel. After two more years, he joined Celebrity Cruises as marine personnel to enhance his seamanship abilities. He advanced through the ranks, ultimately becoming an AB or quartermaster—a notable accomplishment for his age.
Leveraging his connections within the seafaring industry, Romer Gutierrez secured a job at a Thai restaurant in New York. Over time, he transitioned to employment at a law office owned by a Filipino-American immigration lawyer. His strong work ethic and potential were acknowledged, leading him to assume paralegal responsibilities and eventually to become an employment manager handling H-1B cases. In this role, he assisted teachers and school districts in recruiting international professionals.
After three years, Romer made a significant decision: he established his own manpower agency, concentrating on aiding Asian teachers in securing positions in the U.S., with a special focus on assisting Filipino teachers in obtaining licenses to teach in American schools.
Moreover, Romer Gutierrez has embraced philanthropy, participating in building schools in remote provinces in the Philippines and supporting children’s education. He aspires to serve as a role model for ambitious young individuals, motivating them to persevere in chasing their aspirations. Presently a green card holder, Romer has plans to apply for U.S. citizenship within the next two years.
