PURA LUKA VEGA – The controversial drag artist revealed on Threads that he’s a former teacher.
Pura Luka Vega, whose real name is Amadeus Fernando Pagente, made headlines due to a video of him performing a remix version of the Filipino Lord’s Prayer, “Ama Namin,” while dressed as Jesus Christ went viral. This performance drew criticism from the public, including senators who found it offensive, disrespectful, and blasphemous.
According to the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), his actions can be considered “mockery” and “blasphemous.” His performance was also criticized by Geraldine Roman, the representative of the 1st District of Bataan and an advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community.
As a result, several local government units (LGUs) including Floridablanca in Pampanga, General Santos City, Toboso in Negros Occidental, Bukidnon, Dinagat Islands, City of Manila, Cagayan de Oro, Nueva Ecija, Laguna, Cebu City, and Occidental Mindoro.
Drag artist Pura Luka Vega hails from Dipolog City in Zamboanga del Norte. He was born on February 27, 1990. Presently, he’s 33 years old. Recently, the controversial drag artist took to online social media and social networking service, Threads, wherein he revealed that he’s a former teacher.
According to him, as a former teacher, he finds it weird that classrooms are stripped off of visual aids. He added that those were supposed to help the students learn and at the same time spark their interest and imagination. He cited for example the time he would print the Periodic Table of Elements and cover the entire wall so that students appreciate chemistry.
