Father of Jay R passes away
GAUDENCIO “JUN” SILLONA, JR. – The father of singer-songwriter Jay R died on Saturday, August 12, 2023.
The R&B singer took to the social media platform, Instagram, to share the sad news about his father’s passing. “Love you dad. See you again on the other side,” he noted as the caption on his IG post on Sunday.
Apparently, the singer did not disclose any details regarding his father’s demise. The comment section of his post was flooded with condolences from his fans and friends.
His wife Mica Javier, on the other hand, shared on her Instagram Stories a video of her husband paying tribute to his father.
Meanwhile, Jay R, whose real name is Gaudencio Sillona III is a Filipino-American singer, songwriter, record producer, actor, and model. He achieved prominence with his debut album “Gameface” released in 2003 under Universal Records, which included the hit single “Bakit Pa Ba”.
Jay R was recognized as the “R&B Prince” and often collaborated with Kyla, known as the “R&B Princess”. Their partnership was known as “JayLa”, and they were collectively referred to as the R&B Royalties. He ventured into creating his own music label, Homeworkz Records, and produced albums like “Christmas Away from Home” and “Soul in Love”.
He continued to release successful albums, including an all-Tagalog album “Jay R Sings OPM Love Classics” in 2010. He also made his mark in acting, appearing in TV shows and movies.
In 2018, he introduced the innovative “Artist Digi Pack” which included his album “Kamusta Ka”. He has been an active philanthropist, contributing to charitable causes like the Typhoon Ondoy relief efforts. In 2020, Jay R married singer-actress Mica Javier in an outdoor ceremony in Boracay.
