Iza Calzado Reveals She Had Parasitic Disease While Pregnant With First Child

Iza Calzado: “For the first time in my life, I felt a very primal urge to fight, not only for myself, but for another human.”

IZA CALZADO – The celebrity mom recently revealed that she was diagnosed with a parasitic disease while pregnant with her first child.

Sharing a letter for baby Deia Amihan on her social media account, the celebrity mom said that she found out about the diagnosis during a “short healing trip” to Diesse in Switzerland for her 40th birthday.

The actress learned during that trip that her test results for Toxoplasmosis were confirmed. She added that it “could be a potential risk” for her if it passed through the placenta.

According to the actress, she was told that “there could be brain damage, visual impairment or it could even lead to pregnancy loss”. Her husband Ben Wintle then scheduled a Zoom call with a specialist which she’s able to take on top of the Chasseral mountain.

The celebrity mom then shared that she felt a very primal urge to fight not only for herself but for another human for the first time in her life. She added that it was the first time she “felt deeply connected” to her daughter.

I remember crying as soon as the [Zoom] meeting was done and stepping out of the car, rushing to the edge of the mountain and, with tears streaming down my face, saying ‘No. No. No! Lalaban tayo, anak. Lalaban tayo!’” she said.

Iza revealed that she had to stay in the United Kingdom because there were no advanced testing or treatments available in the Philippines. The actress then recalled having frequent tests, anxiety waiting for the results, and searching for rare medications.

Thank God that we concluded that you were safe,” she said. “The placenta did [its] job to keep the toxo out.

The celebrity mom ended her social media post by thanking her daughter for being one with her in that battle, adding that she and her husband are so blessed to have her. According to her, she marvels at God’s divine timing, His plan, and His grace as she watches her daughter grow into a healthy and strong baby.

To recall, it was last year when she announced her pregnancy on her 40th birthday. She celebrated her 1st birthday as a mom last August 12, 2023.
