One of the ways of the authorities to ease the traffic in the National Capital Region (NCR) is the implementation of the number coding in Manila and several other cities in the capital region. Called the Modified Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program or the UVVRP, the system does not allow certain private vehicles to be on the road for a certain time of the day in a week.

The number coding system is spearheaded by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority or more popularly called the MMDA. The authorities may issue a ticket and fine drivers who will be caught violating the number coding system.

The number coding in Manila is between 7 AM to 10 AM and 5 PM to 8 PM. To ease the traffic, several roads in Manila have no window hours.

Makati

The number coding system in Makati is 7 AM to 7 PM. All types of coded vehicles except those cars driven by senior citizen Blu Card holders, those vehicles carrying passengers who are senior citizen Blu card holders, and those drivers who are involved in medical emergencies are not allowed on the road.

Muntinlupa

The car coding system is implemented along the Alabang-Zapote Road from 7 AM to 10 AM and 5 PM to 8 PM in Muntinlipa. Meanwhile, the Commerce Avenue is exempted from the coding scheme.

Pasay

Pasay City is also one of those that follow the MMDA coding hours and coding window hours but there are exemptions such as in the following major roads:

  • Sales Road
  • Ninoy Aquino Avenue
  • some areas in Airport Road
  • MIA Road
  • some areas in Gil Puyat
  • Domestic Road

Caloocan

In Caloocan City, the authorities implement the coding system from 7 AM to 10 AM and 5 PM to 8 PM except for the Samson Road wherein there are no window hours.

Marikina

The coding in Marikina does not cover all the areas in the city. The 7 AM to 10 AM and 5 PM to 8 PM coding only applies to a portion of the Marcos Highway near the Sta. Lucia East Mall and the Ayala Malls Feliz.
